Prog Planet (Denmark) - Oct 12

Steve Cochrane hails from Canada and has released quite a few albums in the prog genre, I think I have encountered one of them way back. This being the newest release, he was kind enough to send me! In his own words, he wanted to sing like Geddy Lee, play like Alex Lifeson etc. etc. you get the picture. Luckily he didn't manage, I mean Rush are doing alright on their own, aren't they?! But so is Steve, his very own brand of cinematic/folk/prog is displayed here with confidence and excellent delivery. His music here is very much like Anthony Philips (Original guitar player with Genesis) solo albums with some reciting over acoustic music and then again some very epic laden grand sequences with electrifying guitar ( E-Bow?) soli !! Or even a touch of Pat Metheny in the intro to "Towards Ideal" but when this track settles he sounds like a young Peter Gabriel, great track!! Steve plays: Guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion and sings. So even though mostly done by himself, he has help from friends Kevin Richard & Richard Rizzo on drums and some on backing vocals. The result is quite good and his inspiration sources (Oldfield/Genesis) shine through. A fine album, though nothing new as such, just good symphonic/ folk-prog with heart and soul. Check it out !!
